A Balloon Tribute

A Balloon Tribute

A balloon is a symbol
A reminder of our own childhood past
A reminder that we were all children once.
A balloon changes and grows as it is blown up.
Childhood is also a time for
change and growth
Although for us part of that time is
frozen memory.

A balloon suspended in air
between heaven and earth
Kept here only by the ribbon in our hand.
Another reminder that life is the ribbon
that binds our spirits to earth.
How tightly we cling to that ribbon at times.

The time we hold the balloon is short.
Painfully we remember the time we held
our children was too short.
The balloon will be gone
before we really have time to enjoy it.

And for some of our children life was over
before it really began.

The act of letting the balloon go is
symbolic too.
This time a deliberate and conscious act.
Quite unlike those circumstances past
That made us struggle with letting go of our
precious child.

As the balloon rises swiftly
and sails out of sight
Another reminder that one day we too
like the balloon
Will pass to another place--
our new destination.
A place more beautiful and perfect
than any of us can imagine.
And that hope gives us courage to face a
new day.

So from outstretched arms that ache to
hold you once again
And a broken heart that knows this side of
heaven they never will
We send you this symbol of our
undying love and affection.
Because you were and always will be
our precious children.

When You Thought I Wasn't Looking

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust Him.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give your time and money to help people who had nothing, and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight and I felt safe and loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, "Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

~LIQUID LIES~
Liquid lies slip past
your eyes and around your ears
First the lies become a little trickle
but longer they become an ocean
Liquid lies are like an
Addiction and a leech
Never never to be wiped away
Liquid lies will lead to
Stealing
Hurting
and destroying people's feelings
Liquid lies can hurt others too
but most of all they hurt…You!!!
So my advice for liquid lies
stay away
from those hungry lions.

~FAMILY and FRIENDS~
My family gives me
COMFORT
My friends give me
KINDNESS
with these
I am the richest man

~SPECIAL INTERESTS~
My favorite sport
I would say is
FOOTBALL
Every night
after school
I play with my brothers
We play a pretty hard game
sometimes even in the pool
I don't know how
I don't know why
Why when my brothers
lose
They always cry.

~PURPLE PAIN~
Purple pain it is no game
With Purple pain
You can not gain anything in life
You'd be too mad
You'll be so sad
to even squirm an inch
One day you'll be glad
when the purple pain has passed
For now you're sad
and for all I know
you'll stay that way
Cheer up
Give a smile
Make the people laugh for miles

~WHEN I WAS YOUNGER~
When I was younger
I lived with my mom
not even once did I sob
But then one day
My dad was not home
I left my house and moved
to a new home
I never would have guessed
but there I was
sitting on the floor
of my old Gramma's
All scared and frightened
I still sat on the floor
Never to go again to that old house
With memories that fills my heart

~DANCING PANCAKES~
Dancing pancakes....
Rhymes with "bill takes"
but that is so not cool
So I will change it
Because that sounds really cool…

EMOTIONS IN COLORS - by Dakotah
written Nov. 20, 2006
     6th Grade

Love is PINK
         like when you blush,
         also like the color
         of an apple blossom crush.

Love  flows through my veins
          filling every space.
          Reminding me of hot chocolate
          that warmed my face.

It makes me feel numb
         like in a good way.
It makes me want to do something crazy
and fly, fly away without delay.

JOHN MASIAS by Dakotah
written by Dakotah
(sung to the tune of The Beverly Hillbillies)

Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a lad named John

A poor shepherd boy, orphaned at the age of five

And then one day, as he was praying near a tree

Along came a traveler who said, “Please pray for me”.

Prayers, Visions, Heaven’s gold.

Well, the first thing you know, John’s now a missionary

His visions from God said, “In time you’ll move from Spain.

Peru is the place, where you will dwell.

Praying for departed souls and saving them from h..e..double..L."

The poor, the savage and the uneducated Indians.

Well, now it's time to say goodbye to John and all his friends,

You’re all invited back again to listen to me sing.

About John Masias and how he fed the poor

He remained in the world, died a happy death

In the...year of...1654
ERIE CANAL - Dakotah's version
Me and Sal are comin' back to town
Less than 15 miles on the Erie Canal
We're almost there - I cannot wait
Tired of sleeping nightly in a wooden crate

Got some bruises on my back, sore feet, head aches and all of that
But I'll not complain 'bout all these pains
Maybe next time   -
 I'll just take the train.

Low bridge! Everybody down!
Low bridge cause we're comin' back to town
We want to see our neighbors - We want to visit our pals
Cause we've missed them everyday -
 while we've been away
Walking along the edge of the Erie Canal.

A Reason, A Season or A Lfetime

P
eople come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically,  emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk  away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire  fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move  on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.

2005_Dakotah's EMAIL Letter to St. Nikolas

****************************************************************

Dear St. Nikolas,

You should ask kids if they actually believe in you.
Do you actually eat the cookies the kids leave for
you on Christmas Eve?   My three younger brothers,
Tyler, Sam and Austin, believe in you but I don't.
Nothing personal...I'm almost eleven and know the
truth about you.   I am just expressing my true
feelings...finally they are out in the open.

I will see my grandparents, not you, putting the presents
under the tree.   I am told I will get coal in my
stocking...is this true?   Waiting to hear if you
exist.   Are you for real?  I still don't think you
are real.

P.S. Smelly socks need to be washed...can't use them for
you this year.

Merry Christmas from Dakotah

Dear Master Dakotah,

No matter what you say...you are still special to me.
You are still the same little boy from seven years ago
that waited anxiously for St. Nikolas to come with presents
and lots of goodies. The biggest change in you is that
you are older now and a bit more wiser to the world.
In your heart's heart within the depths of your soul
you will always have a child's glow when it comes to
opening your gifts during the Christmas season.
Things aren't always what they seem and Dreams don't
always have to portray the truth. Life is for living
and love is for the giving. We love to give to the
living to bring life to the JOYfulness within.  Be
happy. Be content.  You don't have to struggle with
the facts of my existence just believe in yourself and
let your JOY show everyday.

JOY=Jesus, Others, Yourself

The JOY of Christmas is what is within the heart.
Santa and his many  helpers are a big part of the fun
of the season.  We help to bring that special JOY and
HOPE to the hearts of those who wish to believe.
Being naughty is not one of the right choices to be
making at this time of year.   Listening, Obeying and
Respecting the Rights of Others takes TOP PRIORITY.

Remember, the real REASON for the SEASON and that JOY
within YOUR HEART will grow.

JESUS is the REASON for the SEASON.
Have a MARY CHRIST MASS...

LOVE from your friends at the
NORTH POLE EXPRESS.

PS>>>  Please....You keep the stinky socks and put
them in the laundry.
To answer your last letter that was sent earlier in
the week.  There is no need to ask children if they
believe in St. Nikolas.  They know the truth in their Joyful
hearts and allow the excitement to grow within.

You don't have to believe in me.  You have a free will
...My question to you....Do you believe in yourself
and put forth the Best effort to do your very BEST in
all you do.  What do you Believe in?  What do you
believe to be the truth?  As for coal in your
stockings....Let me think about that one....I believe
that was part of the Christmas story told to children
long ago in hopes that they would be good and be the
very best they could be.   Coal is not a necessary
stocking stuffer...My favorite is lots of LOVE
straight from my HEARTY heart.  ho ho ho  xoxoxoxoxo

THE BEAR
THE BEAR
by Dakotah
(Spring, 2002 - First Grade)

There was a bear in my bed last night.
I let it stay for one night.
And I said if it would not snore.
I let it sleep on my bottom bunk.
I gave him my extra pillow and my blanket.
It was big.
I pulled out my bottom bunk.
He woke me up every hour.
He woke me up for no reason.
When it was time for school
I kept going to sleep in class.
And I went home at night.
He made a big mess.
I yelled at him.
He made my face get red.
I was so mad I could yell.
I was so mad I could tell.
I brought him outside in my backyard.
I put him in my hiding spot.
I gave him shelter.
 I gave him no food.
When I went out there he was gone.
